Walking Meditations to weave
Peace, Love and Compassionate Power into our lives.

“change begins with taking the first step…..”

• Heartwalker Project, founded by Joe Weston, is an ongoing series of walks through various cities around the world, following a route in the shape of a heart

• Either alone or with others, each event is a walking meditation on lasting, powerful peace—as well as a chance to connect with others along the way to examine and reinvent our perceptions of peace and violence.

Interview with Joe Weston:

Q. What’s the purpose of Heartwalker Project?
A. To weave the golden threads of peace, love and compassionate power throughout the world. Also, to support PEACE as a viable, powerful force that is truly attainable.

Q. What’s the meaning of the symbol…?
A. A combination of the well-known Western symbol for love – the red heart, and the (Eastern) Tibetan letter “hrih”, which is associated with Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of compassion.

Q. …and the main message of Heartwalker Project?
A. To quote Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.”

Why is it the human race is capable of such great technological feats—yet still can’t move past its basic violent tendencies?

Many of us still hold on rigidly to outdated beliefs—sparking violence, misunderstanding and fear. When we can let these fear-based, judgmental beliefs, strategies and values go—and open to those that genuinely serve our real needs—then we can walk lightly and courageously toward our future.

This is the Heartwalker message: We can move past our old behaviors, and look to a future built on reason, practicality and inclusiveness; where love, compassion, respect for others and the environment become the underlying force of all societies, leaders and governments.

Q. What’s the potential of Heartwalker Project?
A. There are many possibilities, including: Organizing walks in other cities, raising money for charities, giving talks and lectures along the Heartwalker route, encouraging others to join or start a Heartwalk in their own city. Now’s the time to really talk about how issues of peace and violence have influenced us—and to reinvent our beliefs about peace so that it becomes a powerful, sustaining force in our lives.
