| Continuing Our Grand Master's Legacy
M.A.T.R.I.X.
(Martial Arts Training Research Institute of eXcellence)
Founded by: Lowell Rojon & Black Belt Students
The martial arts philosophy at the MATRIX is based on the system
of training developed by Grand Master Julius Baker Jr. Decades
before mixed martial arts, Julius Baker Jr. was combining techniques
from boxing, Aikido and Capoiera along with Korean Mu Duk Kwan
fighting techniques of Grand Master Byong Yu and Grand Master
Kenny Yung. Grand Master Byong Yu is best known for his powerful
lighting quick kicks and intense training sessions. Grand Master
Kenny Yung is known for his deceptive hand techniques and use
of angles both offensively and defensively. Julius Baker Jr.
fused the fighting systems of both Grand Masters, into a
training system of powerful hands and devastating kicks at a
time when training under more than one Master simultaneously
was unheard of. Having trained in boxing while serving in the
Navy, Julius also studied the falls and throws of Aikido, and
embraced the unique fighting approach of Capoiera from Brazil,
adding those systems to his martial arts training arsenal. During
the 70's Julius Baker Jr. established
a training hall for aspiring youth and young adults. The
training regime consisting of four-hour classes were held three
days a week & were so intense that not only did sweat flow vigorously
but also, occasionally, so did blood. Students were required
to train for at least four years to attain the right to test
for Black Belt. Julius created a generation of outstanding
Martial Artists through a unique and exceptional system of martial
arts training. At the MATRIX, founder Lowell Rojon strives to
provide his students with martial arts instruction that reflects
the passion and dedication his instructor Julius Baker Jr.
has exemplified as a teacher and martial artist. All training
sessions are two hours or longer to allow students adequate time
to practice the movement and skills needed to develop mastery.
Attention to proper technique, and details are stressed and reinforced
in the training regime, along with discipline and stamina.
Promotion of rank (belt system) is determined by
practice, attendance and the attainment of skills, we do not
push promotion of rank as an incentive to our students. (We do
not conduct promotions every three months as an income source).
The quality of our student¡¯s
technique and level of development is the only criteria for advancement.
At the MATRIX we incorporate the best of both ancient
and modern training practices, the best of the past, with the
best of the present. The traditional Korean martial arts practice
of Mu
Duk Kwan (as taught by Julius Baker Jr.) is the core
of our martial arts training system. We also incorporate
tried and true techniques from other martial arts disciplines
including; Aikido, Boxing, Jujitsu, Thai Kick Boxing,
Kung Fu, Lima Lama, Capoiera & Kempo.
We honor the evolution of modern martial arts. Martial
Arts Training at the MATRIX is not for everyone. The
MATRIX is an excellent martial arts program designed
to create extraordinary martial artists &, ultimately,
exceptional human beings!
